Feeling Red is an exploration of one color’s boundless emotional range. Using only shades of red—crimson, rose, scarlet, burgundy, and the glowing warmth between them—I’ve transformed two blossoms into a study of passion, vitality, and depth.

By restricting the palette to red alone, the artwork reveals how infinite the possibilities within one hue can be. Light and shadow expand the color’s dimension; subtle temperature shifts create movement; delicate highlights illuminate the quiet spaces of feeling. In this way, Feeling Red becomes not only a floral portrait but also a meditation on the emotional spectrum contained within a single color—its heat, its harmony, and its power to speak without words.

This painting reflects the feeling I had the during several visits to Dahlia fields in Western NC. I was blown away by these beauties! The variations in colors, shapes and size seem endless. I'm totally enamored with them. I've taken hundreds of reference photos! It was hard to pick which one to paint first... but this one just spoke to me. I think it clearly reflects my feelings for these flowers... star struck and gobsmacked, lol! This is a larger piece and would look lovely as a showpiece in a living room, foyer, dining room or bedroom.

With this painting, I challenged myself to use a limited palette using only colors that I love. I wanted to paint the poppies I saw on the property of The Silverado Resort in Napa, CA. During my visit there, the weather was overcast but the poppies were so bright it felt like they were vibrating. I knew I could really have some fun artistically.

And boy did it pay off! This piece won BEST IN SHOW in “Art Blooms,” an exhibit sponsored by TESA: The Exhibiting Society of Artists in Tampa Bay, Florida. It was commended for mastery of technique, compositional excellence and vibrant use of a limited palette. It’s a small piece that makes a big impact.

This is one of my first interpretations of the beautiful dahlia flowers I discovered in Western North Carolina. As I was painting, one of my favorite James Taylor lyrics kept popping into my head…I just had to incorporate the quote into my art. “The Secret of Life is Enjoying the Passage of Time.” No doubt about that!

I’ve been fortunate to spend a lot of time in Northern California over the past few years. Poppies are everywhere! I love how bright and delicate the petals are. I’ve seen fields of flowers… and poppies growing between cracks in sidewalks. They are overly abundant and add so much joy to the scenery. This painting is a compilation of several reference photos I took while staying at The Silverado Resort in Napa.

My favorite flower is a Peony and a dear friend sent me this stunning bouquet several years ago. I snapped a photo of it and waited for the day I would finally feel confident enough to paint it. I was completely absorbed in the process and loved every minute of it... hence.. the name. This was a great place to get lost. I hope you enjoy it too.

This piece was inspired by the breathtaking roses I discovered during my walks in Woodland, California, shortly after the birth of my first grandchild, CeCe. There were so many huge, beautiful blooms all over town, which made the air smell like perfume. It was a feast for all my senses.

I LOVE peonies! These giant blooms are bold and beautiful. Every time I see a peony, I become enthralled with how big they can grow. But yet they look so delicate! In this piece, I wanted to capture the complex and intricate arrangement of petals. It’s truly my favorite flower and it’s a showstopper when displayed on a large wall.
